Introduction
The
majority of the information in this grant should be understood by most
contemporary biologists. There are some more epidemiological aspects or
microbiological aspects that are more specific and may require some additional
information to be able to fully understand the scope of the unit. In
particular, the process and mechanism of gram stains may need further
exploration before the application to this lesson. The
University
of
Pennsylvania
Health System
has a good write up about the
history, methods, and examples of gram stains. This is their website:
http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/bugdrug/antibiotic_manual/gram.htm. This
unit utilizes the basics of epidemiology as the application of the information
learned throughout the lesson. The students will need to use their knowledge
and learned information to figure out an unknown disease. For those unfamiliar
with the concepts of epidemiology, Wikipedia has an excellent webpage about
epidemiology that can be of use for those trying to understand the evaluation
aspect of this unit. Wikipedia’s webpage can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology. |
