Highlights of Admissions Requirements

  • A completed online application 
  • Important information about the online application.
  • A baccalaureate degree by the time you begin taking graduate courses
  • a 2.75 or higher overall GPA, or a 2.75 or higher GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus graduate courses if you have completed any)
  • Official copies of your transcripts
    • It is possible to apply for admission with unofficial copies, and then have the official copies sent later
  • Resume or CV that includes contact information for two references who are familiar with either your academic work or relevant job experience 
    • Examples: Email addresses or phone numbers for current/former professors, work supervisors, department heads, or volunteer work coordinators
  • Statement that includes why you chose this program
  • Application fee ($55 standard fee, or $90 if international credentials)

No GRE scores are required. 

These programs do not require teacher licensure or specific prior courses for admission.  

Admissions Decision Process 

After all your application materials (including application fee) are complete, multiple steps of the application review process follow. The review process involves both the Graduate College and the specific graduate program. The final admissions decision rests with the Graduate College. 

After an admissions decision has been made, you will receive an email notification from The Graduate College. All admissions communications will be sent to the email address provided on the application.

You may check the status of your application in your online application portal. 

Additional information for international applicants: 

Applicants are required to submit an approved English proficiency exam score that meets the minimum program requirements below, unless they have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a country on the exempt countries list.

  • official TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall
  • official PTE scores required with a 52 overall
  • official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and
    • minimum individual module scores of 6.0
  • official Duolingo Scores required with a 110 overall
  • official TOEFL Essentials scores required with an 8.5 overall
