Your Journey Starts Here!

Powerful Learning
More future teachers choose Texas State than any other university in Texas. Our world-class education and research with relevance develop the expertise to teach every learner and to transform communities.

High Impact
TXST student teachers work with our school district partners from Central Texas to the Gulf Coast, from San Antonio to Dallas-Fort Worth, and from Houston to the Rio Grande Valley.
Innovative Teacher Preparation
Dynamic on-campus classes and field-based learning in local schools. Education degrees and minors that have recently reduced credit hours (generally 120-121 credits) and enhanced quality curriculum.

LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITY
If you want something more out of your freshman year experience, consider joining the Future Teachers Living-Learning Community. Your experiences will include out-of-class activities, getting to know professors, enjoying a community, and enrolling in common courses
GRADUATE STUDENTS
TXST offers initial teacher certification through a range of graduate programs. For already certified teachers, we also offer master’s degrees leading to professional certification as a school counselor, reading specialist, principal, or superintendent.
3 x 3 FOR TEACHER RESIDENTS
TXST has secured $3 million over 3 years for our year-long teacher residents ($20,000 per resident over 2 semesters). Residents are embedded in the same school for a full year, working in a classroom with a cooperating teacher and taking TXST courses at school.

Community Support
New donors like Carol Plassman and Malcolm Hawkins are providing competitive scholarships for student teachers, and some district partners are also funding student teachers and residents.
ROUND ROCK CAMPUS
Junior and Senior level courses for a BS in Education – Elementary Education/ESL Certification are offered at the Round Rock Campus, as well as selected master’s degrees in education.

Aspiring Teachers Scholarship
Texas State students in the undergraduate EC-6/ESL program who meet special criteria are eligible to apply for the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers. Those who apply are eligible to receive scholarships of up to $8,000/yr for up to four years.
