SAN ANTONIO, TX — In celebration of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the Texas-based non-profit organization Lives Robbed announced Ms. Sylvia Guzman as the recipient of the prestigious 2026 Mr. Arnulfo “Arnie” Reyes Award.
Guzman, a dedicated second-grade bilingual education teacher at Katie Reed Elementary in San Antonio’s Northside Independent School District (NISD), was selected for her exceptional commitment to her students and community.
An Unwavering Commitment to Excellence
Guzman’s nomination highlighted her deep empathy, professionalism, and profound impact in the classroom:
"She is so attentive and loves the kids like her own. She wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s the sweetest teacher we’ve had, and we are so blessed to have had her this year. She is respectful, responsible, responsive, and truly made for teaching."
Upon receiving the honor, Guzman expressed her gratitude for the organization’s mission. “It is truly an honor to receive this award," she said. "Thank you for everything your organization is doing for our community.”
A Foundation Rooted in Education
A proud alumna of Texas State University, Guzman’s passion for education was evident early in her academic career. From Fall 2013 through Spring 2017, she worked concurrently within the College of Education, supporting both the academic advising center and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She graduated in 2017 with a degree in bilingual education and has been impacting young learners ever since.
