The A+ Credit Union Scholarship is awarded to recognize and show appreciation to members of the AATFCU and their children. Recipients must be seeking professional certification to enter the teaching profession.

The Arun Raman Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors Arun Raman, who graduated from Texas State University in 2018 with an MA in Rhetoric and Composition and was working on his PhD in Developmental Education in the COE. Recipients must be a doctoral student either starting or continuing their degree in Developmental Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; preference is for recipients with a concentration in Developmental Literacy and must demonstrate academic merit.

The Athletic Trainers Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student who is pursuing a master’s degree in Athletic Training in the College of Education at Texas State University.

This scholarship is awarded to a COE student who graduated from a high school within Cypress Fairbanks ISD, has a minimum GPA of 2.5, and has demonstrated financial need.

Carol Plassmann Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is to honor Carol’s time as a beloved teacher and passion for education. As a middle school American History teacher, she loved to provide hands-on learning opportunities for her students. Carol graduated in 1969 and is a proud alumna of the COE. Recipients must be pursuing their teacher certification and will receive the award during the time of student teaching.

The purpose of the fund shall be to provide scholarships and financial assistance for students who meet the criteria. The recipient must be a graduate student enrolled at Texas State University in the College of Education, pursuing a career in helping dyslexic children; and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.

The Connie Erwin Notley President’s Endowed Scholarship is awarded to elementary education majors who are residents of Caldwell or Pecos counties, have demonstrated high scholastic achievement (3.0 or better), and hold membership in a student professional education organization.

Costley-Oyervides Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Distributions from the endowment shall be sued to award scholarships to UG and/or G students pursuing a teacher certification in Secondary Education in the COE. Recipients must be junior or senior pursuing teacher certification in Secondary Education; or graduate student pursing a Master’s in Secondary Education.

David A. Ortiz Memorial Perseverance Scholarship
Rob and Martha Blain established a permanent endowment, the David A. Ortiz Memorial Perseverance Scholarship to honor the memory of their grandson. Distributions from the endowment shall be used to award scholarships to undergraduate students majoring in Exercise and Sports Science and pursuing an all-level teacher certification in Physical Education in the COE.

David C. Caverly and Cynthia L. Peterson Scholarship Fund
Dr. Cynthia L. Peterson joined the faculty of Texas State University in 1993 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 1999. She was a successful teacher, mentor, and researcher at Texas State, and was an early leader and advocate toward developing the doctoral program in developmental education. Recipient must be a full-time doctoral graduate student with a Literacy specialization enrolled in the Developmental Education Program within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction within the College of Education and must have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 in previous graduate work.

The David F. Votaw Endowment awards students who are studying statistics and/or instructional technology. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

The David Gish Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Athletics Training
This scholarship was established in memory of David Gish who was an award-winning athletic trainer who was employed at Texas State for 24 years. Scholarship recipients should be enrolled in the Master of Science (M.S.) degree with a Major in Athletic Training; have a 3.0 or higher GPA; be active in Athletic Training Sports Medicine (ATSM) Club; current member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA); and demonstrate financial need.

Dawn Breihan Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Health and Human Performance
The Dawn Breihan Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Health and Human Performance is awarded to students majoring in Exercise Sports Science with an all-level teacher certification. Recipients must be a junior or senior, 3.0 GPA, and enrolled in 12 hours of study while attending the university. Recipients must receive at least one recommendation from Exercise and Sports Science faculty. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in volunteerism or service learning in elementary physical education.

The Dorothy Boyd Memorial Endowment is awarded to a student with high GPA who also is an elementary education major, junior status, enrolled for a minimum of fifteen (15) per semester during the year of the scholarship award.

Distribution from the Endowment shall be used to provide scholarship(s) to graduate students enrolled in the Master of Education Program for Student Affairs in Higher Eduction (SAHE). The recipient must be a full-time student in SAHE.

Dr. Lesley Jones Graduate Fellowship
Awarded to two graduate students in the professional counseling program; must have demonstrated commitment to engaging in collaborative research, scholarship, and/or learning with at least one professor, beyond what is required for classroom performance. Student must have completed at least 12 credit hours in the professional counseling program; enroll in at least 6 credit hours per semester during the period of the scholarship award; have a GPA of 3.5 or higher; provide a statement of support from a faculty member who is supervising the applicant's research project; and agree to co-present, along with a professor, at a professional conference and/or submit the presentation for professional publication during the year of the scholarship award.

The Patton scholarship is awarded to exceptional athletic training students that are pursuing a professional degree in Athletic Training, enrolled at Texas State University in at least 6 hours, have a Texas State GPA of at least 3.5, and be an active member of the University’s club pertaining to Athletic Training.

Dr. Rubén Garza Endowment in Education
Dr. Ruben Garza is an alumnus of Southwest Texas State University, award-winning high school Spanish teacher, educational leader, and retired full professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University. Owing to his generosity, the College of Education is able to offer scholarships to undergraduates and graduates who are student teaching during their award year. In addition to being student teachers, the recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Both students who are solely pursuing certification to teach high school students and those who are pursuing a master's degree in Secondary Education with certification to teach high school students are eligible.

The Garden of Achievement honors Education students, alumni, faculty, and staff affiliated with any of the College's departments. Distributions from the endowment will support scholarships to students enrolled at Texas State University in the College of Education and provide discretionary funds for the College of Education.

In order to compete for this scholarship, students must have graduated from a high school in Eagle Pass ISD in Eagle Pass, TX (students who graduated from a charter school are not eligible); majoring in education, if an undergraduate student; enrolled in a program that includes Principal Certification, and have a 3.0 GPA or higher, if a graduate student.

In order to compete for this scholarship, students must be undergraduate students of a sophomore, junior, or senior classification in the COE who are pursuing teaching certification. Recipients should be doing their student teaching to complete teacher certification and will receive the award in the semester they are doing student teaching.

The Gertrude Evelyn Herder-Shafer Endowed Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education who are pursuing a degree in teaching. Preference is given to students pursuing a teaching career in elementary education and requires a GPA of 3.2 or better and must provide evidence of extracurricular activities and/or performing community services.

The Hazel McCanne Endowment awards students majoring in elementary education students seeking EC-6 certification. Recipients must have a GPA of 2.75 or better, be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, and must be members of ACEI.

Helen Buck Campbell Endowed Fellowship
Through the generosity of Dr. Helen Buck Campbell, the Bilingual Biliteracy Education Program offers undergraduate and graduate scholarships. This scholarship is a highly competitive award given to students preparing to enter the teaching field of Bilingual Education. Criteria: earned 3.0 Grade Point Average or higher; major in Education (Bilingual/Biliteracy Education; Teacher Certification in Early Childhood through Grade Six Core Subjects with Bilingual-Spanish); Admittance to the Educator Preparation Program by the time the scholarship is disbursed; Junior or Senior standing; preference given to students who demonstrate financial need. Graduate student must meet the following criteria: earned a 3.5 GPA or higher; admittance to Bilingual Biliteracy Elementary Education graduate degree program.

Distributions from the endowment shall be used to provide awards of no less than $2,500 per year to graduate students) in the Master of Education program in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE), and said award shall be renewable for one additional year. The recipient must be a full-time student in SAHE and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.50.

The Johnston-Wendler Scholarship is awarded to full-time students of junior or senior status who are pursuing teacher certification at Texas State, with a consistently maintained GPA of 3.00 or better.

Jovita Ross-Gordon Scholarship
The purpose of the fund shall be to provide scholarships and financial assistance for students who meet the criteria. The recipient must be enrolled at Texas State University in the Master of Arts in Adult Education and demonstrate financial need.

Joyce Barrett Reasoner Endowed Scholarship
The Joyce Barrett Reasoner Endowed Scholarship awards scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing EC-6 with a GPA of 3.25 or better. Elementary teachers who are teaching in the San Marcos Consolidated School District and who are pursuing a master's degree or doctorate in an area that will enhance their current role in an educational setting will also be considered. Master's or doctorate applicants will include a recommendation by a school administrator from the San Marcos Consolidated School District when applying.

The Katheryn E. Motheral Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior full-time student majoring in education. Preference is given to a senior elementary education major. GPA of 3.0 or better is required.

Lila Lee Cleckler Bales Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to support both undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to the teaching profession. Undergraduate students must be non-traditional undergraduate students who are pursuing teacher certification and plan to work in the PK-12 classroom with children. Eligible graduate students must already have or be pursuing a teacher certification and committed to remaining in the PK-12 classroom to work directly with children. Preference will be given to graduate students who are currently classroom teachers.

Linda E. Homeyer Play Therapy Scholarship
The purpose of the fund shall be to provide scholarships and financial assistance for graduate students who meet the following criteria: enrolled at Texas State University in the Professional Counseling Program with an emphasis on child/adolescent counseling and a stated interest/focus in play therapy; demonstrate financial need; and must have completed COUN 5369: Child and Adolescent Counseling Methods before applying.

The Mabelle Umland Purcell Scholarship is awarded to full-time students, sophomore level or above, who are majoring in Education. Applicant must have sustained GPA of 3.0, have documented financial need, and whose hometown population is less than 50,000.

The Marilyn Tyler Gaddis Travel Endowment is designed to supports student academic research and costs associated with attending professional meetings in the field of Education. Student must be a full-time graduate student in the COE. Preference will be given to students who will attend meetings as presenters and have a financial need.

The Martin Juel Endowment is awarded to graduate students in the College of Education who have completed 12 graduate credit hours, are enrolled in at least 9 graduate credit hours per semester, have a 3.5 or better GPA, and have a GRE of 900 or better.

The Mary Jane Hamilton Memorial Presidential Endowment is awarded to undergraduate students pursuing a career in teaching at an elementary or secondary school level. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA. Recipients must write a one-page letter to the PSH Foundation sharing their reason(s) for entering the teaching profession.

The Michael L. Abbott Graduate Scholarship in Education Administration is awarded to graduate or Ph.D. students seeking advanced study in Educational Administration or in the College of Education. Recipients must be a Texas resident, have documented financial need, and maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate student in the COE who are seeking teacher certification in elementary education; have a 3.0 GPA or better; and preference will be given to students who have resided in a rural community.

The Neil and Dexter Hoover Endowed Scholarship in Education awards junior or senior level students pursuing B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies with focus on EC-12th grade. If no applicants meet these criteria, award may go to graduate students pursuing ME in Elementary or Secondary Ed. Preference is given to students who are residents of Texas, have documented financial need, and who have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.75.

Ophelia Munoz Rodriguez Annual Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who must have graduated from one of the high schools located in the Rio Grande Valley counties of Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, and Willacy, Texas; is enrolled in the COE pursuing teacher certification with plans to teach elementary education; maintains at least a 3.0 GPA; demonstrates high financial need; and will be the first in their family to graduate with a college degree.

The Patricia Fertsch Beck Education Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students from Bastrop, Gonzales, Lavaca, or Fayette counties who are majoring in elementary education. Recipient(s) should have a strong background in extra- curricular activities including high school and civic honors.

The Preston T. Bowling Scholarship Fund is awarded to students who are enrolled to become certified in the teaching profession from grades K-12. The recipient will have graduated from a high school in Robertson or Milam counties and will have resided in one of those counties for at least 5 years. The recipient will have a financial need.

The R.K. Shafer Education Endowment is awarded to incoming freshmen who desire entry to the teaching profession, have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, evidence of extra-curricular activity and/or performing community services. Criteria for selection in descending order of importance: 1. suitability & motivation for teaching 2. Documented financial need 3. Scholastic performance & extracurricular activities in high school.

The Ralph F. Herder Endowed Scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students in education who are preparing to become teachers. Recipients must have at least a 2.8 GPA and a substantial documented financial need.

Roger A. Brasfield Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who are pursuing a degree in Education, and teacher certification in Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science. Mr. Brasfield is a Southwest Texas alumnus who is a Navy veteran, who worked in a variety of science and technology related careers, and was a former middle and high school science teacher. Reflecting his commitment to the teaching of science, this scholarship is awarded to those who will be student teaching during the academic year that they receive the award.

Sally Boeck Memorial Scholarship
Distributions from the endowment shall be used to award scholarships to students pursuing a degree in the College of Education. Preference will be given to nontraditional undergraduate students (at least five years out of high school). Students must be emailed full-time and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Sam and Ann Hawkins Endowed Education Scholarship
This scholarship honors Sam and Ann’s family legacy of service to their communities as teachers. Recipient(s) must be undergraduate student teachers who are not in a paid residency or paid student teaching assignment, and who are pursuing certification in EC-6, Middle Level 4-8, Special Education, or All-Level Physical Education; with preference for first-generation college students with documented financial need.

The William M. Bechtol Graduate Fellowship for Teaching is awarded to post-graduate students pursuing teaching certification and a Master's degree in Education who have excellent academic credentials. Recipients must be pursuing the role of teacher in an elementary or middle school in Texas and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The William T. Tilton Scholarship is awarded to full-time students majoring in Physical Education who maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA, have documented financial need, and graduated from a high school within Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe or Hays counties.
