Celeste Cook

Celeste Cook came to San Marcos as a transfer student to Southwest Texas State University in 1995. She fell in love with the area and decided to make it her home. After graduating in 1998 with a degree in Mass Communications, Celeste worked as a journalist for several years before pivoting to education.

Celeste continued for 10 years in public education, working as a middle school ELA and writing teacher in Austin. Her educational journey led her to Seoul, South Korea, where she taught English as a Second Language to elementary students.

Before joining the Academic Advising team, Celeste worked as a features editor for a local newspaper as well as a camp administrator for San Marcos Parks and Recreation. This diverse background led her to the Texas State College Education where — as a first-generation college graduate and an LGBTQ ally — she hopes to empower students to find the resources and support they need to achieve their academic goals.

Outside of work, Celeste enjoys hiking the San Marcos Greenbelt trails with her husband, kayaking on the river, listening to Korean music, reading sci-fi novels, traveling, and writing short stories. Her son is also a Bobcat, class of 2021.
