CTWP F2F Write Out: Write Where We Stand

Saturday, October 17 | 10:00 AM–12:00 PM Boggy Creek Greenbelt | Austin, Texas

Step away from the classroom and into the outdoors for Write Where We Stand, a face-to-face writing retreat inspired by the National Writing Project’s Write Out. Teachers and writers are invited to spend a refreshing morning at Austin’s beautiful Boggy Creek Greenbelt, where the natural environment becomes both inspiration and text.
During this two-hour experience, participants will slow down, observe, listen, walk, wonder, and write. Surrounded by the sights, sounds, textures, and stories of the greenbelt, teachers will participate in guided writing invitations designed to demonstrate how place, nature, and observation can spark meaningful writing. Participants will have opportunities to write independently, reflect with colleagues, and share ideas for bringing place-based writing experiences back to their own students and communities.
This retreat aligns with the National Writing Project’s Write Out (October 11-25), which celebrates writing, making, and learning inspired by the outdoors and the places where we live. Through the theme “Write Where We Stand,” participants will consider how the places beneath our feet and around us hold stories worth noticing, exploring, and preserving through writing.
Come prepared to walk, notice, wonder, write, and connect. Leave with renewed inspiration, new writing of your own, and practical ideas for helping students discover that powerful writing can begin simply by stepping outside and paying attention to where we stand.
Boggy Creek Greenbelt sits in East Austin and is easily accessible from I35, 183 or 130. (Address: 1114 Nile St, Austin, TX 78702)
Bring something to write with and something to sit on (chair or blankets). Refreshments will be provided.
